Service purpose and limits

About PayClocked

A focused calculator for separating worked hours, gross overtime, the federal premium, and a possible deduction—without hiding the rule boundary.

Coverage
Federal + California general rules
Approach
Local, source-dated estimates

Why the service exists

Overtime questions often collapse gross wages, the extra premium for overtime hours, and a possible federal income-tax deduction into one number. PayClocked keeps those amounts separate so the route from a daily time entry to an estimate remains visible.

The service is for workers and people checking payroll who need a structured first pass—not a promise about wages owed, tax liability, withholding, or a refund.

What PayClocked separates

  • Time
Daily entries grouped into a defined workweek and workday.
  • Pay
Base earnings, regular rate, overtime premium, and gross pay.
  • Rules
Federal general weekly overtime and California general daily and weekly overtime.
  • Deduction
The FLSA-qualified premium kept distinct from all paid overtime.

A traceable method

The calculator builds the regular rate from the included pay components entered, classifies each hour under the selected general rule, prevents the same hour from being counted twice, and applies the federal deduction only after the wage calculation.

The explanation is part of the product. Read the methodology, inspect the official source register, or follow material changes in the changelog.

Where the service stops

PayClocked does not decide whether someone is exempt, an employee, or an independent contractor. It does not automate every occupation, agreement, schedule, pay method, state, or tax-return fact.

  • Alternative workweeks, special FLSA regimes, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Piece rates, day rates, prevailing wage, public works, and other unsupported pay methods.
  • Meal, rest, travel, on-call, off-the-clock, penalty, damages, and limitation questions.
  • Complete payroll, withholding, take-home pay, refund, or tax-return calculations.

An uncertain fact should stop the estimate instead of producing a precise-looking fallback. Current agency material, actual records, and a qualified payroll, wage-and-hour, legal, or tax professional should control an individual decision. PayClocked is not affiliated with or approved by the DOL, IRS, or a California agency.
